UNION BEACH — An armed man made off with $3,000 Saturday night after robbing a poker game at the Union Beach Fire Company 1 station, Police Chief Charles Ervin said.

About 30 people were playing cards around 8:45 p.m. when a man wearing a ski mask entered the firehouse hall, Ervin said. The man displayed a gun and demanded money from the players. They handed it over and he fled, Ervin said.

“He takes off down the street and that was the last they saw of him,” Ervin said.

No one was injured in the robbery, Ervin said.

The firehouse is  located at 1224 Florence Ave. Its hall had been rented out that evening for the poker game, Ervin said.

After the robbery, the fire company posted on their Facebook page that firefighters were safe and the building was secure.

The robber wore dark pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt, Ervin said. No further description was available.
