A Keyport man spit at a Union Beach cop and several emergency medical personnel, including a nurse, on New Year’s Day, according to court documents.
Donte A. Smith, 22, allegedly spit on Ptl. Robert Harriott while under arrest Jan. 1. He is also accused of spitting on two medical workers and on a towel, which he then threw into a hospital nurse’s face, arrest reports provided by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office state.
He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault for the alleged attacks.
Why Smith was under arrest to begin with is not clear. The reports say he was charged with criminal mischief for allegedly punching out a window. He is also charged with resisting arrest and hindering his own apprehension or prosecution.
Smith remained lodged in the Monmouth County Jail Monday in lieu of $55,00 bail.
