THE MONMOUTH RUGBY Football Club men’s teams take on Union today at Unami Park in Cranford after both the Met Union Division 2 and 3 racked up easy victories last week against Princeton.
Last week, Prop John Minenna started off scoring with a great kick and chase followed by some fancy footwork to score in the corner.
Tries followed from Rich Cicalo, John Fincher, and a hat trick from hooker and man of the match Andrew Gibson. The scoring continued deep into the second half and Monmouth coasted to a 63-19 victory.
The D2 team followed with a strong performance and a 48-24 victory over Princeton.
Monmouth displayed early patience in the first half jumping out to a 17-3 lead with tries from John Russoniello, Nick Lucarelli, and Andrew Poulson.
Monmotuh was able to break open the match in the second half, lead by line breaks and punishing defense from newcomer and man of the match Chris Sullivan.
The Renegades, the club’s women’s team, have a bye this week. But, last week they fought a close battle with Albany to pull out a a narrow victory.
Kate Benedict led the way with four tries and Colleen Dwyer added a fifth as the Renegades held off a late surge by Albany to win 27-26.
The Monmouth women head up to Randall’s Island In New York City to face the Village Lions on Sept. 26.
The men’s games begin today at 1:30 p.m.
