Anyone who came into contact with pit bull puppies adopted or privately purchased from the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen in the past three weeks may be at risk of contracting rabies, according to Aberdeen officials.
Officials are asking anyone who adopted these puppies or observed an individual with a new pit bull puppy to immediately contact Holly Reycraft at 732-583-4200 ext. 117 or Brittany Shea at 732-583-4200 ext. 130.
The rabies virus is fatal, unless treated within a short time of exposure, according to an alert posted by township police.
Despite being infected with the rabies virus, puppies may appear and behave normally without exhibiting any symptoms. They can still transmit the virus to people and other animals, however.
